Used and Refurbished Juniper E-Series Routers


Juniper E-series router platforms provide reliable IP Edge routing and Broadband Service Routing, subscriber management (by JUNOSe software), and service aggregation requirements. The E-series supports video on demand, voice over IP (VoIP), high-speed Internet access, interactive applications, and online gaming. The E-series supports a wide variety of standards-based interfaces which creates a consistent operational environment as they migrate from TDM- and ATM-based networks to Ethernet-based networks.

All E-Series Routers Share These Hardware Components:

  • Switch fabric and route processor functions.

  • Input and output adapters.

  • Lines modules.

  • Passive midplane interconnects.

For carrier-scale multiplay deployments, the E-series application-optimized platforms consists of these six platforms:

Broadband Services Routers:

  • E320 BSR - 320 Gbps or 100 Gbps; supports up to 6 line modules; advanced Broadband service platform extends wire-speed 10 Gbps performance per slot to support large PoP and Central Office deployments and bandwidth-intensive multiplay services.

  • E120 BSR - 120 Gbps; supports up to 6 line modules; advanced Broadband service platform supports wire-speed 10 Gbps performance per slot to support medium-sized point of presence (PoP) and Central Office deployments and bandwidth-intensive multiplay services.

ERX Platforms:

  • ERX-1440 - 40 Gbps; 12 line module slots; supports medium-sized to large point of presence (PoP) and Central Office deployments, Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, and multiplay services.

  • ERX-1410 - 10 Gbps; supports large circuit aggregation point of presence (PoP) and Central Office deployments, Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, and multiplay services.

  • ERX-700 - 5-10 Gbps; 5 line module slots; compact and designed for small environments where space is at a premium and redundancy is desired; supports Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.

  • ERX-310 - 10 Gbps; 2 line module slots; very compact and designed for small, tight offices; supports Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.

  • ERX-705 - 5 Gbps; Compact and designed for small environments where space is at a premium and redundancy is desired.

ERX Line Modules

Channelized T3

The line module channelized T3 LM (CT3-12-F0) supports connections for DS1 and DS0 services over a channelized interface. It also supports all major private line protocols, including Frame Relay, PPP, HDLC, multilink PPP and Frame Relay; and scales to support the aggregation of over 4,000 T1s in a single chassis, and over 12,000 T1s in a single rack.

Channelized OC-3/STM-1 and OC-12/STM-4

The line modules channelized OC3/STM-1 and OC12/STM-4  (COCX/STMX-F0) provide optical circuits to the access provider network in support of high density channelized services. It also supports T3, T1, E1, and DS0 channelization, with support for Frame Relay, PPP, and HDLC.

Fast Ethernet

Fast Ethernet Line Modules (ERX-GEFE-MOD and ERX-GEFE256M-MOD) support high-speed access facing Ethernet services. They also support line rate forwarding and value-added services such as VLAN tagging (802.1Q)

Fast Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet Combination

The ERX hosts line modules (ERX-GEFE256M-MOD and ERX-GEFE-MOD). Customers can configure to support either Fast Ethernet connections to the access network or Gigabit Ethernet connections to the access or the core network. Both line modules support line rate forwarding, and provide value-added services such as VLAN tagging (802.1Q).

Gigabit Ethernet

The ERX supports two Gigabit Ethernet line modules and provide high-speed Gigabit Ethernet connections to both the access network and the core networks. The ERX-GE-MOD supports a 2 port Gigabit Ethernet IOA, while the ERX-HDE-MOD supports the 2 port Gigabit Ethernet IOA and the 8 port high density Gigabit Ethernet IOA. Both line modules support line rate forwarding, and provide value-added services such as VLAN tagging (802.1Q).

OC-3/STM-1 and OC-12/STM-4 ATM

The OC-3/STM-1 and OC-12/STM-4 ATM LMs (ERX-O3O12A-MOD and ERX-OCXA256M-MOD) support high-speed subscriber access and high-speed uplink. Full traffic class support, including CBR, as well as traffic shaping, are supported with on-board, dedicated ATM packet processors.

OC-3/STM-1 and OC-12/STM-4 and OC-48/STM-16 Packet over Sonet (PoS)

OC-3/STM-1 and OC-12/STM-4 POS LM (ERX-O3O12P-MOD and OC3/OC12-POS) support high-speed access network connections and high-speed uplink into the network infrastructure. The OC48/STM-16 PoS LM (ERX-OC48ST16-MOD) for the ERX-1440 also supports a high-speed network backbone uplink.

Service Modules

Service LMs (ERX-IPSERV-MOD and ERX-SERVICE-MOD) support highly scalable L2TP LNS and GRE tunnels, as well as Network Address Translation (NAT) and Firewall Services.  These LMs are internal systems cards with no associated IOA.

IPSec Service Module

The IPSec Service Modules (ERX-IPSEC-MOD and ERX-IPSECURE-MOD) encrypt and/or decrypt packets encoded with the IPSec protocol. IPSec provides secure tunnels between two peers.

E320 Line Modules

LM4

The LM4 (ES2-4GS1-MOD) for the E320 BSR and E120 BSR provides 4Gpbs processing capacity and line rate forwarding to ATM IOAs,  Packet over SONET IOAs, and Gigabit Ethernet and 10Gigabit Ethernet IOAs.

LM10-U

The LM10-U (ES2-10GUPS2-MOD) for the E320 BSR and E120 BSR supports the 10 Gigabit Ethernet IOA to provide line rate 10 Gigabit Ethernet uplinks to the core network.

LM10-A

The LM10-A (ES2-10GUPS2-MOD) for the E320 BSR and E120 BSR supports the high density Gigabit Ethernet IOA and the 10 Gigabit Ethernet IOA to provide high performance packet processing with QoS for network uplink or access facing interfaces.

Services Module

The Service Module (ES2-SERVS1-IOA) for the E320 BSR and E120 BSR supports highly scalable L2TP LNS and GRE tunnels and Network Address Translation (NAT) and Firewall Services. This is an internal systems card, with no physical input/output module required.
